Problem Statement

vangel University has a strong team dedicated to delivering a top-tier experience for their private university students. Our challenge was to ensure the website accurately reflected the university’s culture. As part of a phased migration to a new platform, we uncovered several poor user experiences that needed addressing.

Goals

  1. Enhance the overall user experience

  2. Implement a more intuitive navigation system

  3. Elevate the visual design for a more polished look

Discovery

I was brought onto this project to focus on comprehensive UX/UI improvements for the seminary branch of the university. The seminary, functioning as a separate entity, needed a seamless user experience that integrated with the main university website

SCOPE OF WORK

Wireframes, Mockups

ROLE

Senior Web Designer & UX Designer

Define & Concept

To begin, the project manager provided me with a Word document outlining the requirements and content for over 15 pages. Using this, I created wireframes to map out the structure.

Design

Once the wireframes were approved after several iterations, I moved on to crafting full-page mockups.

Challenges

As with any project, there were challenges we faced:

Issue #1:
There were internal disagreements within the client team regarding the seminary’s identity—whether to keep it distinct or integrate it fully with the university. I facilitated discussions to help resolve this.

Issue #2:
Some of the new pages required design elements that weren’t part of the existing design system. I needed to propose several new ideas to enhance the visual design.

Solutions

Drawing from my commitment to collaboration and empathetic communication, we successfully tackled the challenges:

Solution to Issue #1:
After hearing both sides, I proposed a mockup that embraced the tension. I helped the client recognize that the user would likely see the seminary as part of the university. We integrated a clear navigation option back to the main homepage, addressing both concerns.

Solution to Issue #2:
I introduced new design elements to better organize the content. The client appreciated these enhancements, which allowed us to move forward with the final designs.

Results

The content was transformed into polished, fully designed mockups, which were seamlessly developed for launch. The client was so satisfied with our work that they extended their retainer after realizing the significant value my UX input added to the project.
